Designing for a low carbon future

Director Harish Ratna presented a case study on the new headquarters for the Institute of Physics (IOP) as part of the ‘Heating in a low carbon future’ conference organised by SCI, a multidisciplinary forum bringing science and business together.

The 1-day event explored new technology, visions of decarbonising heat, and the roles of the state, organisations and individual users to reduce CO2 emissions.

A joint presentation with AECOM’s John Edmondson discussed how available and emerging technologies have been applied to the IOP’s new building to minimise energy consumption. The case study highlighted how the client brief informed the approach to sustainability and the importance of analysis and monitoring to deliver a low-carbon energy building.
